Parish Councillor James Nash Shot in Quiet Andover Village

A 42-year-old man, identified locally as Parish Councillor James Nash, was rushed to Southampton General Hospital after a shooting in the sleepy Upper Enham village near Andover.

The incident unfolded around 3pm yesterday on MacCallum Road. Armed police were quickly deployed after reports of an assault on Mr Nash. He suffered serious injuries from a gunshot and was immediately hospitalised.

Deadly Police Pursuit Ends in Tragedy

Following the shooting, a motorcyclist linked to the crime failed to stop for armed officers. A high-speed chase ensued, ending in a fatal collision on the A343 near Hurstbourne Tarrant. The rider died at the scene.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched a mandatory investigation due to the fatal police pursuit.

Hampshire Police said: “A 42-year-old man was shot this afternoon in Upper Enham. Officers responded swiftly to reports of an assault. The victim is currently receiving treatment at Southampton General Hospital. A mandatory referral has been made to the IOPC following the fatal motorcycle pursuit.”
