Serial Rapist Andy Anokye Jailed for 30 Years
Andy Anokye, 33, has been blasted with a hefty 30-year prison sentence for repeatedly raping four women over two years. His vile crimes included imprisoning, torturing, interrogating, and humiliating his victims. Shockingly, he also filmed some of his offences. Before this, Anokye had racked up eight previous convictions, mostly for violent offences.
Initial Sentence Slammed as Too Soft
On 30 July 2020, Bristol Crown Court handed Anokye 24 years behind bars plus a 5-year licence extension. But this sparked outrage. The Solicitor General swiftly referred the case to the Court of Appeal, claiming the punishment was too lenient under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
Court of Appeal Slaps Down Leniency, Increases Jail Time
On 15 January 2021, the Court of Appeal confirmed Andy Anokye as a Dangerous Offender and slammed his original sentence as too soft. They slammed on an extra six years, boosting his jail time to 30 years, plus the same 5 years on licence.
“Anokye’s crimes were truly shocking. The Court of Appeal’s decision to increase his sentence recognises the severity of the abuse he inflicted,” said the Solicitor General, Rt Hon Michael Ellis QC MP.
