West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were alerted at 12:36pm to a blaze on a Metrobus hydrogen-powered vehicle on Southgate Avenue. The eco-friendly bus quickly caught fire, sparking chaos in the busy town centre. Metrobus have been contacted for comment.
Firefighters Battle Blaze, Urge Public to Stay Clear
“Joint Fire Control mobilised three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform to the scene. Upon arrival crews found a fire on a bus. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are working to extinguish the fire. People are being advised to avoid the area.”
The flames were swiftly brought under control with no injuries reported. However, the incident caused major disruption as emergency services tackled the fire, urging shoppers and passers-by to avoid Southgate Avenue.
