St Leonards Man Gets Community Order for Sexual Assault After CCTV Evidence

St Leonards Man Slapped with Community Order After Sexual Assault Conviction

Raymond McKay, 51, from Cooden Ledge, St Leonards, has been hit with a 24-month community order and a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting one woman and attempting to assault another.

Shocking Assaults Caught on CCTV

The court heard McKay inappropriately touched a young woman twice between September 2022 and February 2023. The attacks occurred in St Leonards. Police tracked the assaults down through CCTV footage, which led to his arrest and charges.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery

Detective PC Auryn Liddiard of Hastings CID said: “We applaud the victim for her courage in coming forward and sticking with the investigation all the way through prosecution. The Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sex offender registration should keep McKay away from her, her family, and protect others in the community.”

He added: “We urge all sexual assault victims to report crimes, no matter when they happened. Our specially trained officers are ready to listen and support you. Report online or call 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.”

Additional Penalties and Orders

  • 70 hours of unpaid work
  • Rehabilitation programme attendance
  • £100 compensation to the victim
  • £114 victim surcharge
  • £85 court costs
  • Five years on the sex offenders’ register

McKay’s sentence aims to block any chance of repeat offences and protect the local community.
