West Midlands Police have shut down a suspected brothel in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter after a lengthy investigation.
Operation Targets ‘Annabels’ on Hockley Hill
Officers from the Birmingham Serious Organised Crime and Exploitation Team (SOCEX) targeted a location called “Annabels” on Hockley Hill. The premises, an industrial unit, had been converted into 12 bedrooms – each with en-suite showers – and was suspected of being used for indoor sex work.
Following months of evidence gathering and intelligence work, the police worked with the landlord to reclaim the property and shut down the operation.
Ongoing Probe and Community Warning
“Our team works hard to investigate all reports of illegal sex work – and we’ve been determined to take action at this location,” said PC Stuart Hurley from SOCEX. “We close premises like this as we aim to protect people being exploited within them, and the associated harm that these venues can bring to the local community.”
