Over 300 Migrants Land in Dover as Channel Crossings Surge

More than 300 migrants arrived in Dover today after calmer weather sparked a spike in Channel crossings. UK authorities have now rescued or intercepted over 3,000 migrants this year alone, averaging more than 1,000 every month.

RNLI and Border Force Rescue Multiple Groups

The RNLI saved three young men from a rubber dinghy after they ditched their engine in the Channel. Meanwhile, Border Force picked up groups of men and women, bringing them ashore at Dover Marina, Kent.

Among the rescued were 20 young men arriving around midday, followed by 30 migrants including women, and another 50 people intercepted all before 1pm. The relentless arrivals highlight the ongoing crisis in the Channel.

Government Pushes Tougher Border Controls Amid Rising Crossings

Today, Parliament is set to debate amendments to the Nationality and Borders Bill. The changes aim to give Border Force greater powers to stop and redirect vessels suspected of carrying irregular migrants.

Minister for Justice and Tackling Illegal Migration, Tom Pursglove MP, slammed the dangerous crossings: “The rise in dangerous Channel crossings is unacceptable. Not only are they an overt abuse of our immigration laws but they also impact on the UK taxpayer, risk lives, and our ability to help 1 come to the UK via safe and legal routes. Rightly, the British public has had enough.”

The Migrant Dilemma: Why They Keep Coming

Migrants are drawn to the UK because even if refused leave to stay, many slip into the shadows and work in the black economy. Without frequent stop checks by Border Force—which remain rare—the chances of being caught are slim.

It’s near impossible to track migrants once they’ve entered France or other European countries. This makes the UK an attractive destination. Until the Government steps up and performs thorough checks, especially in London, migrant arrivals are unlikely to slow down.
