Officers investigate thefts from Ashford scrap metal depot

Kent Police is investigating after a scrap metal depot in Ashford was targeted by thieves twice in one weekend.

A large quantity of copper was stolen from the site in Ellingham Way between 7pm on Friday 13 July and 8am on Saturday 14 July. Officers believe the copper was carried over a wall.

The second theft took place in the early hours of Sunday 15 July when a large quantity of metal was stolen.

Investigating officer Sergeant Andrew Bradbury said: ‘We believe two Ford Transit vans were used during the second incident. One was white and the other was an old-style yellow van with a white Luton body.’

Police are following a number of lines of enquiry and believe a number of people would have been needed to transport that quantity of metal.

Sgt Bradbury said: ‘If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area during the relevant times, please contact us. We would also like to hear from anyone who recognises the descriptions of the vans or has been offered metal for sale.’
