Man hunt to trace failing to stop driver

Police are appealing for help to trace any potential witnesses to a serious collision in Lingfield following which a car failed to stop at the scene.

The incident is believed to have involved a dark coloured vehicle potentially overtaking a Vauxhall Astra, which resulted in the Astra leaving the road and hitting a tree. This happened as a third vehicle came towards the Astra and dark-coloured vehicle on the opposite carriageway.

The collision happened on Felcourt Road, approximately half a mile south from the junction with East Grinstead Road, between 11pm and 11.30pm yesterday (July 20).

The driver of the Astra, a man in his 60s, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the passenger, a woman in her 30s, has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Sergeant John Clarke from the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit said:

“We are asking for the public’s help to find out any information about the dark-coloured vehicle involved in this collision, and also if anyone was the driver of a third unknown car which we believe was coming in the opposite direction on the other carriageway at the time.  “It’s vital that if you think you know someone who may have gone along this road earlier tonight and may have either seen this happen or was the driver of the dark-coloured vehicle or the third vehicle on the other side of the road, to get in touch. Equally if you have any CCTV footage along that stretch of road, or have a dash-cam that may have captured anything of relevance, please get in touch immediately.”

Anyone with any information should contact Surrey Police on 101 (999 in an emergency) or use and quote PR/18173378.
