Three Arrested in Essex Over Shocking Forced Labour Cannabis Farm
Police swooped on a property in Romford, Essex, arresting a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s. They face charges including production of cannabis, holding a person in slavery or servitude, and possession of Class A and B drugs.
Another man was also detained at the same address on immigration offences and remains in custody.
Two More Held in Birmingham Drug and Immigration Crackdown
In a linked raid in central Birmingham, two men aged 20s and 30s were arrested on suspicion of producing and possessing Class B drugs, along with immigration offences.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) also searched two Burton on Trent properties as part of the ongoing probe.
Four Suspects Released While Investigation Continues
Four suspects have been released under investigation, but one remains in custody pending further immigration enquiries.
NCA Warns of Ruthless Crime Gang Using Forced Labour
“This is a complex investigation focused on a crime group believed to be using forced labour to produce cannabis,” said NCA operations manager Neil Gardner.
“Organised crime gangs often exploit vulnerable people to boost profits, both in drug production and distribution.
“We have seen victims threatened and subjected to extreme violence as criminals tighten their grip. Tackling modern slavery is a top priority for the NCA.”
