Huw Edwards Named in Shocking BBC Scandal Over Teen Image Payments
Veteran BBC news anchor Huw Edwards has been accused of paying a teenager more than £35,000 for sexually explicit pictures. The claims were revealed by his wife, Vicky Flind, who said Edwards is currently receiving in-patient hospital treatment for serious mental health issues and will remain under care for the foreseeable future.
The family has requested privacy amid this dramatic and troubling time.
BBC and Police Response Sparks Confusion
Initial BBC reports at 6pm claimed Edwards had resigned, only for the broadcaster to later backtrack, confirming he had not quit. The scandal broke as the Metropolitan Police announced there was no evidence to suggest a criminal offence had occurred.
After police confirmed no further action, the BBC vowed to continue a thorough internal investigation, promising to assess all facts carefully while prioritising the wellbeing of everyone involved.
More Allegations Surface Against BBC’s Star Presenter
The BBC disclosed that Edwards faces additional claims of inappropriate behaviour towards colleagues, adding fuel to the controversy surrounding the 61-year-old newsreader. Edwards has been a prominent face on BBC News at Ten and reportedly carried on presenting even after complaints were made in May.
According to The Sun, Edwards allegedly started requesting explicit images from the teenager when they were 17, around 2020. The accusations also include an incident where the presenter stripped down to his underwear during a video call with the now 20-year-old.
Victim’s Family Speaks Out as BBC Suspends Edwards
The young person’s mother reportedly discovered the explicit messages after seeing a screenshot of Edwards preparing for them to perform sexually for him. Following the family’s complaint, BBC suspended Edwards, insisting they take all allegations seriously and have robust procedures to handle such matters.
Frustrated that Edwards remained on air for a month after the complaint, the family went public with their story. The investigation is ongoing, with the BBC committed to a full and fair probe into the allegations.
