Dramatic Police Chase Ends in Arrest After Passenger Jumps from Moving Car
High-Speed Chase Through Chippenham Streets
At around 6.20pm last Friday (February 5), police tried to stop a grey Mercedes C250 on Dowse Road – but the driver refused to pull over. A short but wild pursuit kicked off, with the car weaving through Spitalcroft Road, Brickley Lane, Jump Farm Road, Windsor Drive, Eastleigh Road, Waylands, Cromwell Road, and Elm Tree Gardens.
Passenger Flees From Moving Vehicle
The chase ended just five minutes later when the Mercedes screeched to a halt on Brickley Lane. Officers arrested a 28-year-old Chippenham man on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, drug driving, and possession of cannabis. Remarkably, a passenger jumped from the moving car during the chaos – but luckily, no one was hurt.
Police Appeal for Witnesses to Help Crack Case
“Although this was a relatively short pursuit, the vehicle was driven at excessive speed and carried out dangerous manoeuvres,” said PC Richard Clark of Devizes Area Community Policing Team. “It’s incredibly fortunate no injuries occurred – things could have been far worse.”
PC Clark is urging drivers of several vehicles spotted near the incident to come forward: a black Nissan Juke in Brickley Lane, plus a white Suzuki Vitara, grey Vauxhall Insignia, and white Ford Mondeo seen in Eastleigh Road.
