A teenager was rushed to hospital after a dramatic rescue from Southmere Lake near Bazalgette Way in Thamesmead. The alarm was raised just before 12:30pm on Thursday after someone spotted the teen in trouble in the water.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) revealed the teenager was saved by a quick-thinking bystander before fire crews even arrived.
“The Brigade was called at 12.34pm to Southmere Lake after reports of a person in the water,” an LFB spokesperson said. “The person was rescued by a member of the public before the Brigade arrived and was treated by London Ambulance Service crews at the scene. The incident was under control by 1.08pm.”
Ambulance Teams Rush Teen to Hospital
London Ambulance Service confirmed they got to the scene within minutes.
“We were called at 12.29pm today (19 June) to reports of a person in water near Bazalgette Way, SE2. We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews and an incident response officer. We treated a teenager at the scene and took them to hospital as a priority.”
Currently, the teen’s condition is unknown. Police have been contacted for further updates.
