Teen Stabbed to Death in Shocking Primrose Hill New Year’s Eve Brawl

A fight that blew up from a simple bump ended in tragedy on New Year’s Eve in Primrose Hill. Sixteen-year-old Harry Pitman was fatally stabbed in the neck during chaotic scenes just before midnight.

Knife Attack Sparks Murder Trial

The accused, a 17-year-old now on trial for murder, admits to causing Harry’s fatal injury but insists it was either an accident or self-defence. Prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward KC opened the case at the Old Bailey, saying the trial will focus on whether the stabbing was deliberate or a tragic mistake.

“Last New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2023, revelry turned to tragedy in the blink of an eye: Harry Pitman, aged 16, was stabbed once in the neck. He died almost immediately as a result of that single but deadly injury,” Ms Ledward told the court.

How a Bump Sparked Bloody Chaos

The court heard that Harry and the defendant’s groups were strangers. The row began around 11:30pm after Harry accidentally bumped into someone from the defendant’s group. Witnesses said Harry was playing a kicking game near some girls when he lost his balance and knocked into a stranger, who pushed him in response.

Temperatures flared quickly. Harry was heard saying, “Don’t touch me, because I didn’t touch you.” Moments later, one of the defendant’s friends slapped Harry on the back of the head, sparking a fight between Harry and that friend.

Knife Flash and Fatal Stab

A bystander’s 63-second video captured punches flying and Harry’s opponent falling to the floor. Suddenly, the defendant appeared at the scene holding his trousers and allegedly brandishing a knife. Witnesses shouted “Mindi” – Somali for knife – as he pulled a blade from his waistband.

“The defendant brought his right arm upwards from his side in an arcing motion, and brought it down towards the top of Harry’s shoulder. A light, slim, shiny object held in his right hand catches the light. The Prosecution suggest that this must have been a knife,” said Ms Ledward.

Harry was stabbed once in the neck. Despite police and paramedics rushing to help, he was pronounced dead at 11:54pm, just minutes before the New Year celebrations.

The defendant denies murder and possession of an offensive weapon. The trial continues as the court decides whether the fatal stab was intentional or self-defence.
