Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) sprang into action just before 12:30pm on Sunday, 4 January. Reports came in of a dog trapped beneath the ice, prompting an urgent response.
- Two fire engines from Wythenshawe were dispatched.
- Specialist Water Incident Unit from Eccles arrived to assist.
Brave Efforts End in Loss
Firefighters plunged into freezing water, using a ceiling hook in a desperate bid to save the dog.
“Crews recovered the dog who had sadly died and remain on the scene,” confirmed a GMFRS spokesperson.
