Central Line Chaos: Station Shut After Person Hits the Tracks
The Central Line plunged into chaos today after a serious incident at Chancery Lane Underground Station forced a full suspension. A casualty on the tracks sparked major delays and left London commuters reeling during an already hectic morning for Transport for London (TfL).
Emergency Panic at Chancery Lane
At around 9:38am, emergency crews including the British Transport Police (BTP) and London Ambulance Service (LAS) raced to the scene following reports of a person on the tracks. The exact circumstances and location remain unclear, and no further details on the casualty have been released.
The entire Central Line between White City and Leytonstone was shut down. Chancery Lane and several other stations closed temporarily, causing severe travel disruption. To make matters worse, ongoing planned works hit the District, DLR, and Waterloo & City lines.
Commuter Chaos on Marathon Day
The incident came on the same day as the London Landmarks Half Marathon, which shut roads and piled extra pressure on public transport. TfL urged passengers to avoid the Central Line, allowing tickets on buses, the Liberty Line, Elizabeth Line, Chiltern Railways, and Greater Anglia services.
By 11:50am the Central Line reopened but delays persisted all day, with passengers stuck in packed stations and long queues. Disruption eased by 2:08pm, especially between North Acton and West Ruislip, but it wasn’t until 5:01pm that normal service resumed — though minor delays lingered into the evening.
Angry Commuters Speak Out
“Absolute chaos on the Central Line today. Stuck at White City for over an hour with no updates. Hope everyone is safe.”
“TfL really needs to improve its handling of incidents like this. People were left stranded with no information.”
Ongoing Probe and Travel Tips
The British Transport Police confirmed an investigation is underway but stressed the incident is not suspicious. TfL advised passengers to plan ahead and check real-time updates via the TfL website and TfL Go app before travelling.
Despite the Central Line now fully operational, commuters are urged to stay alert for any further disruption as London recovers from today’s meltdown.
