Bomb scare sparks armed police lockdown in Weston-super-Mare town centre
Armed police have sealed off four streets in Weston-super-Mare tonight (Saturday) amid a major bomb-related probe. Residents trapped inside the cordon cannot return home and have been told to stay indoors with doors locked.
Serious incident sparks huge emergency response
Police describe the situation as an “ongoing serious incident” but are tight-lipped on details. Fire crews, ambulances, and dozens of officers are at the scene. A command centre has been set up in Locking Road car park as the operation continues.
What’s behind the lockdown? Explosive chemicals found
Social media is buzzing with rumours of bomb-making materials discovered in a Baker Street flat. Avon and Somerset Constabulary insist reports of armed police and bomb disposal units are false.
A police spokesman said: “At around 5.25pm today (July 1) we were made aware of potentially unstable chemicals at an address on Baker Street, Weston-super-Mare.”
One man arrested, no terror links found
The 49-year-old suspect is helping police with their inquiries. Specialists from the fire service checked the chemicals and declared the scene safe.
