Bristol Rioter Jailed for Attacking Police Station
Gedge-Rogers Found Guilty of Rioting
Mariella Gedge-Rogers, from Clifton, Bristol, has been convicted of rioting outside Bristol City Centre police station. A jury unanimously found her guilty of participating in violent disorder on 21 March last year, where she and others caused fear for public safety.
Harsh Sentence Due to Violent Actions
Unlike others jailed for the same offence, Gedge-Rogers received a heavier sentence because she did not plead guilty. His Honour Judge James Patrick called her “an active and persistent participant,” highlighting several aggravating factors:
- Rioting for around two hours
- Throwing objects at police officers
- Using a skateboard as a weapon against an officer
- Attempting to smash windows and break into the Bridewell Police station
More Jail Time as Riotters Total Over 57 Years Behind Bars
Gedge-Rogers is the 14th person to be sentenced for the riot. Together, these offenders have amassed more than 57 years behind bars.
Police Send Strong Warning
“Gedge-Rogers has today learned her actions on the night of 21 March last year have very serious consequences,” said Detective Superintendent James Riccio.
“Her liberty has been taken away for a considerable time because she attacked police officers and damaged a neighbourhood police station.”
“I hope this sentence sends a strong message to those who think such behaviour is acceptable. Those who refuse to take responsibility will be punished severely.”
Note: Legal proceedings continue for others involved in the March 21 riot. Reporting that risks prejudicing trials should be avoided to ensure fair justice.
