Son Stabs Mum to Death Outside Kirkby Pub
Jamie Dempsey, from Brechin Road, Kirkby, has been convicted of manslaughter after fatally stabbing his 55-year-old mum Karen during a fight outside a local pub in August 2022.
Following the stabbing, Karen was rushed to hospital but tragically later died from her injuries.
Jail Time for Deadly Attack
Yesterday, Wednesday 18 March, liverpool/" title="Liverpool" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Liverpool Crown Court sentenced Dempsey to 19 years in prison for manslaughter. He also received concurrent sentences of four years for unlawful wounding and three years for possession of a bladed article.
Police Warn About Knife Crime Consequences
Detective Chief Inspector Ally Woods condemned the horrific act, saying:
“This is clearly a very tragic case in which a man fatally stabbed his own mum while fighting with someone else outside a pub.”
“Sadly it shows all too harshly the devastating consequences of carrying a knife and the impact it can have on you and your family as well as your victim.”
“Dempsey will now spend a considerable period behind bars and must live with the knowledge he caused his mum’s death.”
Merseyside Police Vow to Crack Down on Knife Crime
DCI Woods added that reducing knife crime remains a top priority for Merseyside Police. The force will continue with stop-and-search operations, warrants, and community education programmes.
She urged local residents to help by reporting anyone they suspect of carrying or storing weapons, saying:
“We ask our communities to help us by telling us who is carrying weapons and where they are being stored.”
