Young Extremist Nabbed in Birmingham Terror Crackdown

Rayan Saab, 22, from Nechells, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court last November. The arrest came in January last year after a police probe by Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands CTU.

Extremist Content Found on Multiple Devices

Officers seized several electronic gadgets from Saab’s home. Each device contained extremist material aimed at helping terrorists plan attacks. He faced five charges for spreading terrorist publications on January 26.

In a twist, Saab admitted one of the charges in October before his trial—sharing terrorist propaganda on social media back in March 2020.

Police Warn of the Threat from Terrorist Propaganda

“We cannot underestimate the dangerous nature of the propaganda material and the influence it can have; which is why it is so important to hold to account those who share these videos with others,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell, head of the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

He added that police and partner agencies aim to support vulnerable people targeted by radicalisers. Early intervention, he stressed, is key to stopping individuals from falling victim to extremism and ending up in court.
