Burglary Scoundrel Jailed Over Six Years After Reign of Theft and Mayhem
Tyler McPherson, 26, from St Andrew’s Road South, St Annes, was handed a hefty 5 years and 6 months behind bars at Preston Crown Court on Friday, October 21. He pleaded guilty to a string of offences including burglary, vehicle interference, public nuisance, and possession of a bladed article.
Spate of Burglaries Sparks Police Hunt
The trouble began on November 23, 2021, when police were tipped off about an attempted burglary and two vehicle interference incidents on Cartmell Road. McPherson tried to break into two cars parked on a driveway and even targeted locked patio doors at the same property.
Not done there, he hit another home on Riley Avenue the same day. Breaking in through a window, he ransacked the property, nicking mobile phones, a laptop, cash, and cigarettes. He even helped himself to curtains and a footwarmer from a vehicle parked outside. Nearby cars also came under attack as he tried to get inside them.
CCTV footage nailed him, leading to his arrest on December 8. Released on an electronic curfew and signing-on conditions, McPherson soon broke the rules.
Six-Hour Siege Ends in Arrest
On April 23, 2022, police found McPherson in breach of his curfew on St Helier’s Road, Blackpool. He was climbing on roofs, smashing tiles and wood, and pelting officers with debris.
A massive siege unfolded, lasting over six hours with police negotiators, ambulance crews, and emergency services all involved. McPherson threw more tiles, tried to ignite wood and other materials, and even threatened himself and others with a knife.
Eventually, he surrendered and was arrested again, facing charges of affray, criminal damage, public nuisance, and possession of a bladed article.
Police Condemn Brazen Crime Spree
“Burglary is a horrible and intrusive crime that often leaves victims feeling vulnerable and unsafe in their own homes. It is therefore only right that we use all of our policing powers to deal with those individuals who invade the homes of others and steal their property,” said PC Gareth Evans from Blackpool Police’s Targeted Crime Team.
“McPherson targeted several properties on neighbouring roads, stealing a range of items, including curtains and a footwarmer. He was prolific and brazen, making no attempt to hide his offending.
I have no doubt McPherson would have committed further crimes and a custodial sentence is reflective of the gravity of his actions.”
