Speed Demon Busted: Swindon Car Meet Kingpin Slapped with Injunction
Wiltshire Police and Swindon Borough Council are cracking down hard on noisy, dangerous car meets. Zackeriah Gordon, 22, from Shrivenham Road, Swindon, has become the latest to face the law as part of Operation Staysail.
Revving and Drifting Illegal, Gordon Caught in the Act
After racking up a string of incidents involving reckless driving and anti-social behaviour, Gordon was slapped with an injunction on October 17. But just four days later, he was spotted revving engines and doing wheelspins in Tesco’s Ocotal Way car park — then drifting around Greenbridge Retail Park.
Police didn’t hang about. They swooped, arrested Gordon for breaching his injunction, and seized his car. He had to fork out £150 to get it back.
Custodial Sentence Suspended — But Warning Loud and Clear
On October 25, Gordon admitted breaching the injunction and was handed an eight-day custodial sentence, suspended until the order expires in 2024. This sends a clear message: persist with dangerous driving, and you’ll face serious consequences.
Local Authorities Unite Against Disorderly Drivers
Sgt Joel Coombes said: “This is an excellent example of local policing and the local authority working together to deal with disruptive car meets robustly. The manner of Gordon’s driving can not only cause serious disruption but also carries considerable risks to both him and members of the public.” “We will continue to target those who deliberately cause distress to local residents and danger to other road users with all legal avenues available to us. We urge residents to continue reporting incidents of anti-social and careless driving to police.”
Councillor Cathy Martyn added: “We’ve been working closely with Wiltshire Police to tackle the anti-social nature of these car meets. We want to ensure the safety of residents and road users, and this activity can cause serious safety issues.” “Sometimes the only option we have is enforcement and I hope that this sends out a message that we take anti-social behaviour very seriously.”
