Mental Health Crisis Helpline Shines Spotlight Ahead of Awareness Day

With Helpline Awareness Day looming on Friday, February 23rd, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with Surrey County Council, is putting the Mental Health Crisis Helpline centre stage. This vital service has been a lifeline for those in distress for over 13 years.

24/7 Support for Nearly 50,000 People Every Year

Since 2010, the Mental Health Crisis Helpline has helped around 600,000 people. Running round the clock every day of the year, it supports almost 50,000 individuals annually. Staffed by trained NHS professionals, the helpline offers a listening ear, sound advice, and connections to community services.

The helpline tackles all kinds of crises, from extreme anxiety and suicidal thoughts to mania and psychosis. It ensures help is always just a call away for anyone feeling overwhelmed or in distress.

Safe Havens Offer Comfort When You Need It Most

On top of the helpline, Surrey and Borders Partnership runs five Safe Havens in Aldershot, Epsom, Guildford, Redhill, and Woking. Open out-of-hours, these centres provide adults in crisis a safe, supportive space staffed by mental health practitioners and trained workers ready to help.

Officials Urge Those in Need to Reach Out

“We believe that mental health support should be available to everyone,” said Mark Nuti, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health. “No one should have to suffer in silence – the Mental Health Crisis Helpline is here for anyone who needs it.”

Emily Hackett, Mental Health Crisis Line Service Manager, added: “Our dedicated crisis call handlers are on hand to support you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t suffer alone. Call the Mental Health Crisis Helpline today at 0800 915 4644.
