Brutal Pub Stabbing: Timothy Simon Found Guilty of Wayne Phillips’ Murder
Timothy Simon, 59, from Englefield Road, N1, has been convicted of murdering Wayne Phillips. The verdict came down on Friday, 24 March, at Isleworth Crown Court.
Simon will return to court for sentencing on 5 April.
Night of Terror at Uxbridge Road Pub
The tragic stabbing happened shortly before midnight on 23 July 2022. Police were called at 11:55pm after reports a man was seriously wounded inside a pub on Uxbridge Road, W13. Emergency services found 58-year-old Wayne Phillips with a fatal stab wound to the heart. Despite their desperate efforts, he was declared dead at 12:29am the next day.
A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as blood loss from the heart wound.
Fury Fueled by Jealousy
Wayne had arrived at the pub with two female friends to attend a birthday party. After greeting partygoers, he was suddenly confronted by Simon. The pair, who had a bitter history — because Simon had once been involved with Wayne’s long-term partner — clashed violently. Within moments, Simon stabbed Wayne and fled the scene.
Simon was arrested the following day and charged with murder.
DCI Rawlinson Speaks Out
“This was a senseless murder committed out of insecurity,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson, who led the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigation. “Simon’s actions have left Wayne’s loved ones devastated, still struggling nearly a year later. Our thoughts remain with them.”
“The entire attack was caught on CCTV. Simon tried to deny ownership of the folding knife, but footage clearly shows him making the stabbing motion before fatally injuring Mr Phillips.”
“I’m relieved the right verdict was reached. Wayne’s family can now find some comfort knowing justice has been served.”
