Man Found Guilty of Murdering Wayne Phillips in London Pub
Timothy Simon, 59, of Englefield Road, N1, was convicted on Friday, 24 March at Isleworth Crown Court for the brutal murder of Wayne Phillips.
Simon now awaits sentencing, scheduled for 5 April at the same court.
Fatal Pub Stabbing Caught on CCTV
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command, led by Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson, cracked the case. DCI Rawlinson described the killing as a “senseless murder” driven by insecurity.
“Timothy Simon’s actions have left Wayne Phillips’s loved ones devastated and even now, almost a year on, they continue to struggle to come to terms with their loss. Our thoughts are with them today.”
Police were called to a pub on Uxbridge Road, W13, at 11:55pm on 23 July 2022 after reports of a stabbing. Officers and paramedics found Wayne, 58, suffering a stab wound to the heart. Despite emergency efforts, Wayne was pronounced dead at 12:29am on 24 July.
A post-mortem confirmed death was caused by blood loss from the stab wound.
Fatal Fight Sparks After Birthday Party Arrival
On the night, Wayne and two female friends arrived for a birthday party, carrying presents from their car. Moments after entering the pub, Simon confronted Wayne. The men fought briefly before Wayne collapsed, fatally stabbed in the chest.
Simon fled but was arrested the next day. Charged with murder on 25 July 2022, the court heard the pair knew each other—but not well. The motive stemmed from Simon’s bitter refusal to accept Wayne’s relationship with his former partner.
DCI Rawlinson revealed, “The entire encounter was captured on CCTV. Though Simon denied owning the folding knife, footage showed him making a stabbing motion with his right hand, then using the blade to fatally stab Mr Phillips.”
“I am pleased that the right verdict was reached and that Wayne Phillips’ loved ones may find a small measure of comfort in knowing the man who took Wayne from them has been held to account.”
