Storm Bram crashes in with 90mph winds and torrential rain
Amber Warning Slams Northwest Scotland
The Met Office has named the next wild weather beast: Storm Bram. Northern and Western UK, brace yourselves for a battering. Northwest Scotland faces howling 90mph gusts under an Amber wind warning. Meanwhile, Yellow warnings stretch across Wales, southwest England, Northern Ireland, northern England, and southern and eastern Scotland.
Heavy rain is lashing most of Wales, southwest England, and Scotland’s Central Belt with yellow warnings for relentless downpours.
“Storm Bram will bring a very wet and windy spell of weather,” warned Met Office Chief Forecaster Dan Suri. “Gusts of up to 90mph could be recorded in northwest Scotland. Across other areas, winds of 50-60mph – and up to 70mph in spots – are expected. Rainfall could reach 100mm in parts of south Wales and Devon.”
Flood Alert: Ground Too Wet to Handle Bram’s Deluge
The rain’s coming hard on already soaked soil, raising severe flood fears.
Charlotte Morgan from Natural Resources Wales sounds the alarm: “Rivers are swollen, and the ground can’t soak up more rain. Flood alerts and warnings are likely.”
Residents in South Wales and other hotspots should act now:
- Sign up for free flood warnings.
- Keep away from swollen rivers.
- Never drive or walk through floodwaters.
- Pack a flood kit with essentials like documents and meds.
- Move cars and valuables to higher ground.

How to Keep Safe As Bram Strikes

- Fasten all doors and windows tight, especially garage doors.
- Park cars in garages or away from trees and walls to avoid fallen debris.

What Happens After Bram?
December stays unusually mild with highs of 16°C hitting parts of Wales, northwest England, and southern Scotland on Tuesday. But Bram won’t go quietly. As the storm drifts north on Wednesday, expect blustery winds and lingering showers, especially in the north.
Thursday should bring drier weather for most of the UK. Watch for frosts in central and southeast areas. The far north will still wrestle with winds, low cloud, drizzle, and creeping rain from the west.
