Brutal Highgate Knife Murder: Dwayne Stewart-Akers Found Guilty
Dwayne Stewart-Akers, 38, of Highgate Road, NW5, was convicted at Harrow Crown Court on Friday, 15 October for the savage murder of Jack Ampadu in February.
He faces sentencing at the same court on 21 October.
Friendship Turned Fatal in Bloody Flatland Attack
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Hine, who led the investigation, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked assault on a man who was – up until that moment – friends with the defendant. The ferocity of the attack left Jack with fatal injuries.”
She added: “Stewart-Akers tried to pretend he was a victim, but quick-thinking officers saw through the ruse and arrested him. Our thoughts remain with Jack’s family.”
Police Respond to Bloody Scene at NW5 Flats
- Police and London Ambulance Service arrived at the flats on Highgate Road just before 7.40pm on Monday, 15 February.
- They found 37-year-old Jack Ampadu suffering multiple stab wounds.
- Despite paramedics’ best efforts, Jack died at the scene.
- Post-mortem confirmed cause of death as stab injuries.
Stewart-Akers was at the scene, claiming Jack and a friend were still fighting on the landing before he fled. Officers spotted him running, detained, and arrested him.
Murder Motive Revealed: Visit Turns Deadly
Detectives uncovered that Jack and Stewart-Akers had been friends. On the fateful night, Jack had gone to visit Stewart-Akers. An argument erupted, and Jack left the flat only to be chased onto the landing.
There, Stewart-Akers launched a brutal knife attack.
CCTV footage confirmed the eyewitness accounts, capturing the fatal stabbing. Another man arrested in connection with the case was later released with no further action.
