Youth Jailed for Knife Robbery After Dating Site Meet-Up

A 19-year-old man has been locked up after robbing a man he met through a dating website in Hackney. Ashley Jackson, from Barbauld Road, N16, was handed 40 months in prison for robbery and a further six months for possessing a knife. The sentences will run concurrently, handed down at Snaresbrook Crown Court on January 10.

Knife-Wielding Robbery on Date

On November 11, 2022, Jackson arranged to meet a man in his forties in the E1 area after connecting on a dating site. After spending time together, Jackson suddenly pulled a knife and threatened the victim, demanding £180. He then flagged down a taxi and made a clean getaway.

Police Nab Suspect Days Later

Detectives launched an investigation that led to Jackson’s arrest on November 15. Detective Constable Alex O’Sullivan said: “The effects of becoming a victim of robbery, particularly where there is a threat of violence, run far deeper than a loss of cash or property – they can be traumatic and long-lasting.”

“Jackson has now been removed from the community, where he can no longer victimise the general public. I sincerely hope that this gives the victim the feeling that justice has been done.”
