Brutal Knife Murder: Lukasz Siemienowicz Jailed for 22 Years

Random Stab Attack Shocks Edmonton Community

Lukasz Siemienowicz, 41, was sentenced to a minimum of 22 years behind bars at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, 13 December. He was convicted of killing 29-year-old Julio Gomes in a brutal knife attack in September 2019.

Judge Martyn Zeidman QC condemned the “totally unprovoked” assault, telling Siemienowicz, “Whatever sentence I impose, you have sentenced the family to a life of mourning.”

Shocking Night in Jubilee Park

On 14 September 2019, police and ambulance teams rushed to Houndsfield Road after reports of a man stabbed. Julio Gomes, a hardworking fruit and vegetable stall worker from Edmonton, was found with fatal injuries near the Old Edmontonians’ Sports & Social Club in Jubilee Park.

He was attacked close to a party at the clubhouse, stabbed near the bandstand about 65 metres away. Despite running for help, Julio was chased and fatally stabbed by Siemienowicz, who had been heavily drinking and using cocaine.

Passersby tried to save Julio with first aid and bravely held the attacker at bay until police arrived to arrest Siemienowicz.

Family Left Devastated

“Julio was 29 years old when his life was brutally taken away from us,” said the bereaved family.

“He left behind three children – twin sons aged 12 and a daughter aged 8. Julio was our golden boy, part of a humble and honest family who valued work above all.”

“Nothing will bring Julio back, but we hope this verdict brings some peace. We’ll never know why he was killed, and that torment will haunt us forever. Our hope is no other family suffers as we have.”

Investigator Praises Courage of Witnesses

Detective Sergeant Dolores Connolly said, “Siemienowicz is a dangerous individual who randomly attacked a hardworking man providing for his family. I commend the brave people at the scene who stepped in to help Julio and stop the assailant from escaping.”
