Paedophile Phillip Greenwood Jailed for 20 Years Over Horrific Abuse

Phillip Greenwood, 71, has been locked up for 20 years for abusing a young girl over four years. The nightmare started in 2007 when she was just six years old and continued until she moved away aged 10 in 2011.

Girl’s Brave Confession Leads to Arrest

The victim kept the abuse secret for years. It wasn’t until November 2018 that she found the courage to speak out. She revealed Greenwood had molested her and forced her to touch him.

Northamptonshire Police launched an investigation and charged Greenwood with four counts of sexual abuse against a child under 13.

Convicted at Trial – Justice Served

In August, a jury found Greenwood guilty of one count of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

On November 1, Northampton Crown Court sentenced him to 20 years in custody, plus two years on licence. Greenwood, formerly of Rushden, was also added to the sex offenders register.

Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery and Urges Reporting

“To say I am thrilled at this sentence would be an understatement – to see Phillip Greenwood jailed for so long is a brilliant and fitting outcome,” said Detective Constable Nicky Webb of the Child Protection Team.

“The victim has shown incredible bravery throughout, even attending court to see her abuser rightly punished.”

“Every child deserves to grow up free from fear and abuse. We are committed to pursuing justice for survivors, no matter when the crime happened.”

“If you have been a victim, please come forward. We will believe you, support you, and work hard to bring offenders to justice.”
