Knife-wielding thug hijacks delivery driver in London Road terror ordeal
Intoxicated attacker storms delivery van
On the evening of 9 November 2023, a man delivering food for a local supermarket made a routine stop on London Road. Suddenly, Jimmy Lee, clearly drunk, jumped into the passenger seat uninvited. When the driver refused to give him a lift, Lee turned aggressive and pulled a knife, pressing it to the driver’s throat, and threatening to stab him.
Violent rampage inside moving van
The terrified driver tried to stay calm, slowly driving towards the town centre while Lee punched him in the head. During the terrifying journey, Lee also stole the man’s wallet and gloves. Spotting paramedics in a passing vehicle, the driver seized a chance while Lee was distracted, escaping the van and seeking help.
Thief caught red-handed and jailed
After the driver fled, Lee tried to run off carrying the victim’s rucksack and coat but was quickly caught by police on scene. The 36-year-old was sentenced to six years in prison earlier this year.
PC Chelsey Farmer, North Division CID: “Lee’s victim went through a horrific ordeal and feared serious harm. Yet he stayed calm and managed to escape and raise the alarm. Lee is a violent man, already armed with a knife, who targeted an innocent delivery driver just doing his job. He is now behind bars, making north Kent safer.”
