Thug who choked woman and threatened cops behind bars for three years

Brutal assault in Mansfield

Zak Jackson, 23, attacked a woman in Mansfield last October, putting both hands around her neck while demanding to see her phone. The violent thug tried to strong-arm her into changing her police statement but later admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

High-speed police chase and harassment

On 10 December, Jackson was involved in more trouble at the same victim’s home. When police arrived at a disturbance, Jackson fled in the woman’s car, reaching speeds of around 70mph, driving on the wrong side of the road and running a red light. A pursuing officer struggled to keep up.

Jackson then bombarded the victim with abusive calls and texts, warning she was making a “big mistake” and making chilling threats to kill police officers, whom he repeatedly called “Feds.”

Convicted on multiple charges

  • Putting a person in fear of violence
  • Intimidating a witness/juror
  • Dangerous driving

He pleaded guilty to all these. Other charges, including controlling and coercive behaviour, criminal damage, and theft, remain unresolved but could be used in future proceedings.

Justice served

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Jackson was jailed for three years and banned from contacting his victim for a decade.

“Jackson is a violent, abusive and controlling bully. His cowardly actions have had a significant negative impact on his victim and her family and I am glad he has now been punished for these offences,” said Detective Constable Ella Redfern.

“This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and will always be investigated thoroughly by Nottinghamshire Police. We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to lock people like Jackson away and to safeguard victims of violence.”
