Firestarter Mum Locked Up for Setting Flat Ablaze
Arson Horror at 2am
Lilian Mwuaura, 32, from Windmill Avenue, was arrested after a terrifying arson attack at her flat in the early hours of January 5 last year. Northampton Crown Court heard the blaze broke out at around 2am in a two-storey block containing 10 flats.
Multiple Fires Started Inside Flat
Investigators revealed Mwuaura set fires in at least three places inside her home. Flames engulfed the main living room, where items had been piled under a window and set alight. The most dangerous act? Paper was set on fire beneath the gas meter in her bedroom, scorching the meter itself.
Five-Year Sentence for Arson with Intent
Mwuaura denied the charges but was found guilty of arson with intent to endanger life. She was sentenced to five years behind bars.
Detective Constable 1 Bastuba told the court: “Despite denying the offence, Mwuaura was found guilty after clear evidence showed she tried to start fires in three separate areas of her flat. Thanks to swift police and fire service action, the fires were contained. The consequences for the other residents could have been catastrophic. Hopefully, she’ll reflect on her actions while serving her sentence.”
