Woman Jailed for Trying to Burn Man Alive with Lit Barbecue Under Bed
A woman has been locked up for more than five years after placing a lit barbecue under a bed while a man slept. Lisa Walmsley, a resident of Radnormere Drive, Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, was sentenced to five years and four months at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday 15 October 2020.
Attempted Murder Shocker in Stockport Home
In the early hours of 2 January 2020, around 12.40am, emergency crews rushed to Radnormere Drive after a 19-year-old man woke to smoke billowing from a disposable BBQ burning beneath his bed. The young man raised the alarm, and thankfully, no one was hurt.
Two Victims, Two Attempted Murder Charges
Walmsley was arrested nearby shortly after the incident. She faced two counts of attempted murder — not only against the 19-year-old but also a 21-year-old man who lived at the same property.
“I would like to pay tribute to the victims’ immense bravery throughout the court process,” said Detective Constable Laura Burgess from GMP’s Stockport Division.
“Since that awful day, these two young men have shown immeasurable strength, not only in trying to process what they have been through, but also in helping see justice done.
“Their lives have been changed forever by this. We wish them well and hope that this result offers a small piece of comfort as they move forward from today.”
