Drug Dealer Jailed After Using Granny’s Home to Peddle Heroin and Cannabis
Adonis Wright, 28, with no fixed address, was locked up on Tuesday, February 18—just days after his birthday. He received 42 months for possession with intent to supply heroin and 18 months, running concurrently, for cannabis supply. On top of that, he got an extra three months consecutively and one month concurrently for breaching suspended sentences.
‘Cuckooing’ Drama Uncovered at Vulnerable Woman’s Home
Wright was caught after police found out he had taken over the home of an elderly woman—an act known as cuckooing, where drug dealers exploit vulnerable people’s homes to run their illegal trade. Officers forced entry and found Wright in the garden, where he immediately begged them to switch off his PlayStation. He claimed his game character was ‘dying’ and he didn’t want to lose his ‘hard work.’
‘Dying Game Character’ Ruse Fails
Detectives weren’t buying it. They suspected the gaming plea was nothing but a distraction. Their hunch paid off when they discovered a bag covered in dollar signs hidden in the neighbour’s garden. Inside? Bundles of heroin ready for sale.
Police Seize Drugs and Phones; Dealer Caught Red-Handed
The officers also uncovered cannabis and phones that revealed a drug dealing network. Detective Sergeant James Paget from Operation Raptor West said:
“Wright was shocked when we broke into the address he’d cuckooed. We believe he jumped up mid-PlayStation and bolted to the garden to hide his stash. His weird fuss over his computer character just made us more suspicious—and it didn’t take long to find what he’d thrown away.”
“Yesterday Wright got his comeuppance behind bars for dealing drugs in our community. Meanwhile, a vulnerable woman has been protected from exploitation. He’s got plenty of time to ponder his mistakes—and the fate of his game character—while serving his sentence.”
