Rowdy Flyer Banned After Champagne-Fuelled Brawl on Gatwick Flight
Lambeth Financier Goes Berserk at 35,000 Feet
A financial worker from Lambeth is paying the price for a drunken rampage aboard a flight from Palma, Mallorca, to London Gatwick. Harrison Tilson, 33, sparked chaos mid-air after downing a hefty amount of booze, viciously assaulting passengers and crew during the turbulent journey.
Champers and Red Wine Trigger Mid-Flight Mayhem
Tilson kicked off his trip with three glasses of Champagne in the airport lounge, followed by three more glasses of red wine once on board. His behaviour quickly spiralled out of control, spilling drinks on fellow passengers and blatantly ignoring repeated orders from cabin crew. It got uglier when he threatened other travellers and launched a punch at a crew member trying to calm him down — leaving the worker seriously injured and off the job for weeks.
Passenger Outrage and Police Crackdown
One passenger branded Tilson’s antics “a disgrace” after he even defied rules by leaving his seat while the plane was still taxiing. Sussex Police have since cracked down on Tilson’s actions. PC Sam Fee of Gatwick CID slammed the conduct, warning: “It is an offence to board an aircraft while drunk. Alcohol’s effects worsen at altitude with lower air pressure.”
“Tilson’s behaviour was appalling. No cabin crew worker should have to accept abuse or assaults as part of their job. That’s why we’re tough on lawbreakers onboard,” PC Fee added.
Court Hands Down Tough Sentence
On October 18, Lewes Crown Court sentenced Tilson to a two-year community order. He faces 250 hours of unpaid work, ten rehabilitation sessions, £1,800 compensation to the assaulted crew member, and £1,500 in court costs. The case serves as a stark warning: think twice before knocking back too many drinks on flights.
