A heartbroken family has paid tribute to Maggie-May Ann Moody, a “perfect” 13-week-old baby girl who tragically died following a dog attack in Dormanstown, Redcar.
Tragic Loss at Just 13 Weeks
The incident happened on April 9 at a home on Hardale Grove. Maggie-May was rushed to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough but was pronounced dead shortly after. Coroner Paul Appleton confirmed the provisional cause of death was a “head injury” during a brief inquest hearing. Two dogs were involved in the attack. One was shot dead by armed police at the scene, while another similar dog was seized and later destroyed by Cleveland Police. Locals described the dogs as “pocket bullys.” Police said the breeds were legal to own.
Family Tribute: “Sunshine on Rainy Days”
“Our beautiful baby girl, Maggie-May Ann Moody, brought sunshine to even the rainiest of days,” the family said. “Perfect in every way, she filled every moment with love, character, and her own little spark.” “Cherished and deeply loved by her mam, dad, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunties, and great aunt and uncle. She was the heart of our family, and her loss leaves a space that can never be filled.” “We have been robbed of a lifetime with her, but we will carry her in our hearts always.”
Maggie-May’s funeral will be held on Friday, May 1, at St Peter’s Church in Redcar at noon, followed by a private family burial. The family have asked mourners to wear bright colours with a splash of pink, no dark clothes, and to send family flowers only. Donations will be accepted for the Royal Victoria Infirmary Baby Unit in Newcastle.
Police Arrest Three Over the Tragic Attack
- A 45-year-old man was arrested on April 9 on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog causing death, and released on conditional bail.
- On April 13, a 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and similar dog-related charges.
- A 36-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog resulting in death.
None of those arrested are connected to Maggie-May’s family. This tragic case has shaken the Dormanstown community and raised urgent questions about dog safety and responsibility.
