Brutal Home Invasion: Elderly Man Assaulted in Kent
Andrew McNair, 28, from Warden Bay Road, Sheerness, has been jailed for over five years after a terrifying robbery in Minster.
Three Men Break In and Attack Sleeping Pensioner
On the night of October 10, 2020, McNair and two accomplices burst into a 75-year-old man’s home in Kent Avenue wearing all black with balaclavas and gloves. The victim was asleep in his living room when one attacker struck him in the face, sparking a violent assault.
The thugs demanded cash, hitting the elderly man repeatedly. He offered £600 stashed nearby to stop the beating. The raiders took the money but kept pressing for more before fleeing.
DNA Evidence Cracks Case Wide Open
Offenders entered via a bedroom window. Forensic specialists collected a DNA sample from the scene, matching McNair. Arrested 18 days later, McNair has refused to name his fellow criminals and has been in custody ever since.
Detective Constable Matt Sherriff said: “Andrew McNair has shown himself to be a coward capable of inflicting appalling cruelty on an elderly man asleep when the attack began. His violent behaviour marks him as a real danger. I’m glad justice has been served.”
Police Appeal for More Leads
DC Sherriff added: “I hope this conviction brings some comfort to the victim. This was an abhorrent crime. Anyone with information on the remaining offenders must come forward. It’s never too late.”
