Brutal Ex Boozer Gets 20 Months for Attacking Partner and Cop
A violent thug has been jailed for 20 months after attacking his ex-partner and then turning on the police. Christopher Kelly, 39, from Thamesmead, faced Maidstone Crown Court on 20 May 2019 where he admitted multiple assaults including one on a law enforcement officer.
Shocking Assault in Strood
Kelly’s troubles began on 8 February 2019, when he punched his former partner in the face while they sat in her car on Darnely Road, Strood. He fled before police arrived.
Officers later learned Kelly had also beaten her days earlier and smashed her phone by throwing it out of a window. When asked to leave, he viciously kicked and assaulted her again.
Violence Against Police Leads to Heavier Sentence
The following day, 9 February, two officers went to Kelly’s home to arrest him. Instead of cooperating, he attacked one, injuring the officer’s neck.
He was promptly arrested and charged with two counts of assault and assaulting an emergency worker.
Police Warn Against Violence
“Kelly inflicted painful and serious injuries on his former partner leaving her anxious and fearful,” said Investigating Officer PC Harry Lewis.
“His violent attack on the officer was not only needless but landed him extra time behind bars. Assaulting officers doing their job is just as unacceptable as attacking a partner. The jail term shows just how serious these crimes are.”
