Man Charged with Murder After Brutal Bottle Attack in Margate

Detectives have charged a man with murder following a deadly assault in Margate. At 2am on Saturday 12 October 2019, Kent Police responded to a disturbance at a home on Sandhurst Place. A man had been seriously injured after being attacked with a broken bottle.

44-Year-Old Victim Dies at Scene

Emergency services, including the South East Coast Ambulance Service, raced to the scene. Sadly, 44-year-old Mark Miles was pronounced dead at the property. Officers arrested 23-year-old Richard McAuley of Northdown Road nearby and took him into custody.

Murder and Assault Charges Approved

Both men were known to each other. After a thorough probe by Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate detectives, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised a murder charge against McAuley. He is also charged with assaulting a woman in the same incident, though she was not seriously hurt.

McAuley is due to appear at Medway Magistrates Court on Monday 14 October.
