Accused Killer of PC Sharon Beshenivsky Denies Murder 18 Years On
74-Year-Old Piran Ditta Khan Pleads Not Guilty
Piran Ditta Khan, charged with the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford nearly two decades ago, has entered a not guilty plea at Leeds Crown Court. The 74-year-old faces murder charges over the fatal shooting on November 18, 2005, when PC Beshenivsky and a colleague were responding to a robbery call.
Extradited From Pakistan, Faces Firearms Allegations
Khan was extradited from Pakistan in April and denied all charges including murder and four firearms offences. Prosecutors say he held a 1 10 submachine gun and a 9mm pistol illegally, with firearms offences covering possession of prohibited weapons.
The court revealed the submachine gun was allegedly “designed or adapted so two or more missiles could be fired without repeatedly pressing the trigger,” highlighting its deadly capability.
Admits Robbery on Day of PC’s Death
While denying murder, Khan admitted to a robbery charge connected to the theft of cash from Mohammed Yousaf on the same day PC Beshenivsky was gunned down.
Case to Return in February
PC Sharon Beshenivsky, just 38, was shot dead outside Universal Travel on Morley Street, Bradford. Her partner, PC Teresa Milburn, was seriously wounded but survived.
The trial is set for February. Meanwhile, Khan remains in custody. Judge Mr Justice Hilliard joined proceedings via videolink from London’s Central Criminal Court.
