River Cop Injured After Ball Bearing Fired from Bridge

A Kent police officer was injured after being hit by a lead ball bearing thrown from a bridge while patrolling the River Medway in Maidstone.

Attack from Above on Broadway Bridge

The shocking attack happened at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, 12 March 2019. The ball bearing was hurled from the Broadway Bridge, striking a river patrol officer on a boat below and injuring his hand.

Serious Danger Warned by Police

Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes from Kent Police’s Tactical Operations Command warned: “If the ball bearing had struck the officer in the face or head it could easily have led to a serious injury.”

He added they want to understand the full circumstances and are eager to speak with two young men spotted on the bridge just before the attack.
