Second Man Arrested After Roof Gun Scare Rocks Southampton
Southampton police have swooped again, nabbing a second suspect linked to yesterday’s shocking rooftop gun incident in the city centre.
Second Arrest Made After Roof Standoff
A 21-year-old Southampton man was arrested this morning (Aug 30) on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear and assault causing actual bodily harm.
He joins an 18-year-old, also from Southampton, who was held yesterday for the same offences.
Armed Police Respond After Rooftop Reports
The drama unfolded at 3.41pm on August 29, when officers received multiple reports of two men spotted on the roofs of shops in Above Bar Street, armed with what appeared to be long-barrelled guns.
Armed police rushed to the scene and launched an extensive search. One unfortunate victim reported being shot in the leg with what is believed to be an air weapon.
Thankfully, the injury wasn’t serious.
Police Urge Public To Help
Both suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues. Police thanked those who came forward with information and urges anyone with photos or videos of the incident – circulating widely on social media – to send them directly to authorities rather than sharing them online.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 44200332797.
