Hostage Drama on Southampton Estate as Armed Police Swarm Hinkler Road Home
Armed police swooped on a home in Southampton’s Thornhill Estate just after 2pm today following a tense hostage situation. The son of the homeowner allegedly held another person hostage inside the Hinkler Road property.
Neighbour’s Shocking Eyewitness Account
Local resident Sammy Brooks, living nearby, revealed the hostage called the police from their mobile phone. Witnesses say officers armed with guns quickly sealed off the area, with one woman recalling the chilling scene:
“I saw police with guns hiding behind the walls of a house. One officer with a dog stood behind a bush. They told me to move on and asked everyone to leave. It was pretty scary.”
Firearm Recovered as Police Launch Full Investigation
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed a firearm was recovered from the property. Officers remained on guard throughout the afternoon, carrying out house-to-house enquiries as Scenes of Crime officers arrived.
Two Arrested Over Armed Incident in Southampton
Police arrested two men – a 16-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man, both from Southampton – on suspicion of robbery. They are currently in custody.
A police spokesman said:
“Officers were called at 2:02pm after reports of two men with weapons in Hinkler Road. An air weapon was found during a search connected to the incident. Extra patrols will continue this evening to reassure the public.”
The dramatic armed stand-off has left local residents shaken but police have taken swift action to restore safety to the Thornhill community.
