Armed Police Swarm Southampton Home After Hostage Drama
Armed police surrounded a house on Hinkler Road, Southampton, just after 2pm today following a terrifying hostage incident. Sammy Brooks, a nearby resident, revealed that the son of the home owner took another person hostage but they managed to call 999 from their mobile phone.
Chaos on the Estate as Police Descend
Witnesses described a dramatic scene as officers with guns flooded the estate. One long-time resident said, “I saw police with guns hiding behind walls and an officer with a dog lurking behind a bush. They told me to move on and asked everyone to leave the area. It was pretty scary.”
Firearm Recovered – Police Hold the Line
Police confirmed they recovered a firearm from the property and have since maintained a strong presence on the estate. Scenes of Crime officers arrived and began house-to-house enquiries as the investigation got underway.
Two Arrested After Weapons Report
A police spokesperson said officers were called at 2.02pm about two men with weapons on Hinkler Road. A 16-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man, both Southampton residents, were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remain in custody.
Police found an air weapon during a search linked to the incident. Extra patrols are set to continue tonight to assure the local community.
