Two Men Jailed Over Brutal Camden Rape
Two men have been locked up for a combined 15 years after pleading guilty to raping a woman in Camden.
Abdi Ahmed, 32, with no fixed address, was handed nine years. Ahmed Mohamed, 41, from Raglan Street, Camden, received six years and ten months. The sentences were passed on 31 March at Wood Green Crown Court.
Horrifying Attack Near Camden Tube
The nightmare began on 5 May 2020 when Abdi Ahmed approached the victim outside a Camden underground station. He asked her to call a cab for him. When the taxi never appeared, they boarded a bus together.
Ahmed refused to let the woman leave. At one point, he threatened her, saying, “You know I can hurt you if you don’t come with me,” while grabbing her neck. The victim also said he boasted about having killed people before. Terrified, she felt she had no choice but to stay with him.
Dragged into Flat and Assaulted
Ahmed first tried to get her into a hostel, but staff refused entry. They then went to a Camden flat, where two other men were waiting. One man left, while Abdi dragged the victim into a bedroom and both men raped her.
Heroic Call Leads to Arrest
On 7 May 2020, at around 11am, the victim bravely took her phone into the bathroom and called police. She told the operator she had been raped and was hiding inside the flat, believed to be on the third floor.
Police tracked her phone and carried out door-to-door checks, while she heard officers knocking outside her bathroom door. They forced entry and arrested Abdi Ahmed and Ahmed Mohamed on suspicion of rape.
“These men are highly dangerous,” said Detective Inspector Wood of the Met’s Central North Command. “The victim showed tremendous resilience throughout this ordeal. Thanks to officers who worked relentlessly to bring justice and closure after this horrific experience.”
“The Met remains dedicated to protecting the vulnerable. Sexual violence will not be tolerated. I hope this sentence reassures the community.”
