Two Men Jailed for Brutal Whitstable Station Stabbing
Two men have been locked up after a violent stabbing that nearly killed a man trying to help their friend at Whitstable railway station last December.
Harsh Sentences for Attackers
Lewis Day, 26, from Ramsgate, was sentenced to 14½ years in prison with an extra 3½ on licence. His mate, Daryl Brown, 33, from Westgate-on-Sea, got three and a half years. The pair were sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on 26 November 2024.
Blaze of Violence at Whitstable Station
The drama kicked off on 16 December 2023. The victim — a man in his 50s — retrieved a phone belonging to a female friend of Day and Brown. Brown wrongly thought he was trying to nick it and hurled a beer can from the opposite platform.
When the victim threw the can back, Day and Brown chased him down an alley, where Day stabbed him repeatedly. The attackers then fled, leaving the victim seriously injured.
Witness Saves the Day, Police Move Fast
A brave bystander overheard the attackers arguing about the stabbing and saw their scuffle. Concerned, they found the injured man and flagged down help. Emergency services rushed the victim to a London hospital.
Police arrested Brown nearby and caught Day at Margate station. After reviewing CCTV and witness statements, both were charged — Day with grievous bodily harm with intent, Brown with unlawful wounding.
Detective Constable Matthew Burridge said: “This was a horrific attack on a man who had just tried to help their friend. These two men showed complete disregard for the victim’s life, leaving him to die in an alleyway. Were it not for the courage and quick thinking of a witness, this could have been a fatal assault. I hope these sentences provide some relief to the victim and his family, knowing these dangerous men are off the streets.”
The police praised the witness whose bravery helped bring the attackers to justice. The victim is now recovering, while the community hopes these heavy sentences bring some closure.
