Brace yourselves! The UK is in for another blast of chilly weather with temperatures plummeting below the January average. High-pressure systems are set to dominate, bringing cold and dry conditions nationwide, a sharp contrast to the soggy start to the month.
Cold Snap Grips the UK
Expect a persistent chill throughout most of the week. Southern England will feel the freeze especially hard, with temperatures well below the seasonal norm. Rainfall will be scarce compared to recent drizzly weeks, leaving many regions dry but bitterly cold.
Wintry Weather Warning Ahead
By Sunday, a northerly airflow will sweep in, raising the chances of wintry hazards. The fresh Arctic air is set to replace the milder Atlantic influence, bringing colder air masses and snow showers, particularly to northern coastal areas.
Aidan McGivern from the Met Office said, “A cold front from the north marks a shift to air coming directly from the Arctic. This will bring rainfall mainly to northern areas, especially western Scotland, but more importantly, it will reinforce the cold as we head into next week.”
Snow Showers and Storm Uncertainty
Met Office’s Will Lang warns of spreading icy showers this weekend and early next week. “Showers will turn increasingly to snow, especially in northern parts of the UK,” he said.
Looking further ahead, the picture is less clear. McGivern added, “We start next week with northerly airflow and snow showers near northern coasts, along with some brighter skies. From midweek, low pressure may arrive from the southwest, but its impact is still uncertain.”
Keep Your Wellies Handy
Snowfall intensity and exact locations remain up in the air. The Met Office urges caution as weather hazards remain a concern through the week.
