Woman Airlifted from Steep Cliff in Dramatic Coastguard Rescue
A woman was airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital after a daring rescue at the Grange Chine this evening (Tuesday).
Coastguard Helicopter Scrambled to Remote Scene
The alarm was raised just before 11pm when the woman suffered an injury at the bottom of the steep chine near Military Road. The UK Coastguard quickly dispatched the Rescue 175 helicopter and the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team to the rugged location.
Challenging Terrain Demands Winch Rescue
With the terrain too dangerous for a traditional approach, the helicopter winched down a rescue expert to the casualty. The team used a highline to guide the winchman safely to her side.
Injured Woman Airlifted to Hospital
After treatment on scene, the woman was winched back onto the helicopter and flown to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport. Thankfully, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
