Teen Missing in Thames After Tragic River Incident
A 14-year-old boy has gone missing and is feared drowned after getting caught in the Thames near Richmond.
Emergency Services Launch Massive Search
The alarm was raised at 4.43pm on Monday, 18 July, when the boy was seen entering the water at Tagg’s Island in Hampton. Police, paramedics, and the London Fire Brigade scrambled to the scene.
An extensive search involved all three emergency services alongside local volunteers, combing the river for hours.
Tragic Outcome Confirmed
Despite their tireless efforts, the rescue mission was called off at 6.40pm with no sign of the boy. Recovery teams will continue attempts to locate the body this evening.
His family has been informed and is receiving specialist support.
Warning Issued on River Dangers
“Despite the very best efforts of all involved, we must now sadly conclude that this young boy has died,” said Superintendent Richard Smith from South West Command Unit. “Our hearts go out to his family in this tragic time.”
“With soaring temperatures, bodies of water might seem tempting to cool off in, but the dangers are very real. We’ve witnessed heartbreaking consequences today.”
“I urge young people to be the voice of reason among friends – say no, stay safe, and help prevent such tragedies.”
