Knife Wielding Man Tackled to Ground Outside Ryde Store
A 22-year-old Ryde man was arrested after a dramatic knife attack attempt outside a convenience store in the early hours of Thursday morning (May 2) on George Street.
Speedy Bystanders Stop Knife Attack
Footage seen by 1 shows the man carrying a 10-inch kitchen knife behind his back moments before trying to stab another man three times in the street. Fortunately, he missed each attack.
Two quick-thinking bystanders jumped in, wrestling the attacker to the floor and holding him until police arrived.
Heavy Police Response and Arrest
- Eight officers and four police cars rushed to the scene.
- An ambulance from Isle of Wight also attended.
- Police seized the knives and a black motorbike the man was riding helmetless.
The attacker was taken to Newport Police Station for questioning. Locals asked not to name him while investigations continue.
